2009 Tour of the Fireflies

It was an experience of a lifetime, even if I didn't even get to finish half of the tour. I got into a small accident along EDSA, getting my knees and PRIDE wounded. Wa poise would be the perfect words. I realized that I am not skilled enough for that kind of biking yet, with riders making "git-git" (gosh, what is an English term for that?) and rude car drivers. I guess I can only do biking where I can have one wide lane all to myself. Pang UP Academic Oval lang pala talaga ako! :-)

Oo nga, what happened? Obviously, nothing major... and that's a relief. Galing that you and sina JenJen joined. Parang ang saya!

Yes, please tell. Don't worry about it. Saw lots of accidents happen on the ride, happens every year so you are not alone. This year the more memorable ones were one 1)guy either fainting or just not paying attention, falling the concrete divider along edsa near buendia into the other lane (while his bike stayed on the lane he was on) where cars were moving (needless to say they all stopped). 2) really young biker, fearless, must have been no more than 6 years old, piling into the pack that had slowed in front of him. Classic semplang, I think he even caught some air but he was okay. saw him at the finish line. And 3) an altercation between a young biker (actually his dad) and a motorcyclist.

The trick to riding in a pack is to make no sudden moves, don't brake in the middle, and just move with the group. Of course there were people in the ride that didn't do this so another rule is to watch out for those kind of riders and avoid them. Hope this doesn't discourage you for next year, just do what the kid did, pick yourself up and go for it.

Someone bumped into me so I lost my balance, so ayan, I fell. The only good thing about the fall is lots of good-looking guys stopped to help me:-) Di kasi ako sanay sa gitgitan!

Thanks for the tips, Joey. Unfortunately, I might have been one of the people who suddenly brake, especially when someone makes singit, or worse, a car suddenly swerves. That happened a couple of times... hay naku!

Ahem, Darling, where are the pics of the good-looking guys who stopped to help when you fell? Clearly, they're not just cute but compassionate as well. Remember, we still have some unattached girlfriends...

At least you reached Kamias. Next year, we'll go farther than we did this year. E was right in making us join the group in front. It's more difficult to join the ones at the back. Sobrang siksikan na so the bikers were all going so slow. It's no fun biking at such slow speed - parang naglalakad na lang. Next year, sa harap tayo, after all the marshals!
